Sorors,
Happy New Year! I hope you were each able to greet 2019 with the energy and passion to serve and our first service opportunity will be Monday, January 21st for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. International Day of Service. As with all of our scheduled impact days, we will come together as Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority around the globe to serve our respective communities.
Lambda Pi Omega will volunteer with Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan. This year, we were able to secure TWO LOCATIONS for us to serve with a choice of times as well.
The two locations are:
Detroit Location
Gleaners Detroit Distribution Center
2131 Beaufait Street
Detroit, MI. 48207
TIME: 1pm to 3:30pm for 40 volunteers
Warren Location
Gleaners Warren Distribution Center
24162 Mound Road
Warren, MI. 48091
TIME: Two shifts available:
9am to 11:30am for 15 volunteers
1pm to 3:30pm for 40 volunteers
Since Gleaners has a separate registration page, we have a TWO-STEP registration process to make sure you're confirmed.
FIRST, RSVP on Wild Apricot. Signing up on Wild Apricot will ensure we have you signed up.
SECOND, follow the directions below to register with Gleaners as well. Please be sure to note WHICH location (Detroit or Warren) as well as time shift for Warren location.

Other important reminders:

For your safety, volunteers are required to wear sturdy shoes with closed toes and closed heels, such as athletic shoes or boots.
-
Donations of canned goods are encouraged and welcome!
-
Please make every effort to arrive on-time/early (15 minutes prior). As we get closer, we'll have shift captains for each shift time.
-
There will be no secured area for your belongings. Please leave all valuables at home.
-
Projects may consist of sorting and/or packing food, assembling agency food orders, sweeping, bag folding and more.
-
Though not required, please feel free to bring a pair of gloves to work in.
-
Please dress comfortably in clothes that might get dirty.
-
In colder weather, please dress in layers. The warehouse is chilly, but you warm-up when the work begins.
Looking forward to kicking off 2019 programming with each of you at Gleaners.
Sisterly,
Soror Krysty D. Sagnia
